CRS-Mönchengladbach – The Mid-Sized Phase I/II Clinic
CRS-Mönchengladbach is located in the west of Germany close to the big cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen – the most highly populated region in Europe. Thanks to the well developed public transport system, CRS-Mönchengladbach (which is located near the main railway station) can easily be reached by study participants from the surrounding urban area.
Activities of this unit include the performance of human pharmacology trials in all standard designs. CRS-Mönchengladbach is dedicated to implementing large-scale trials such as QTc (more than 150 subjects) and long-term trials (overnight stays up to 46 days) combined with challenging PK and PD schedules. In addition, the unit has special expertise in skin safety testing, cardiovascular related trials and the conduct of studies with pre- and postmenopausal women as well as in FIM.
- Infrastructure & Location
The unit is housed in two connected buildings (2,200 square metres) and distributed over three wards, enabling different trial activities to be separated. A terrace (120 square metres) at the rear of the building enables controlled outdoor activities. The volunteers’ confinement and leisure facilities cover an indoor area of 500 square metres. In combination with catering by our own chef, conditions are ideal for the long-term confinement of study participants.
Telemetric coverage allows the observation of ECGs and vital parameters such as BP, PR, VR and BT as well as SpO2 throughout the unit. In addition, the unit contains laboratories for blood and urine processing as well as four examination rooms. GMP-certified facilities are located in-house to enable the preparation, packaging and labelling of trial medication under the supervision of a qualified expert.
The unit was originally established in 1992 as an independent, privately owned, Phase I CRO by Dr. Torben Thomsen and a colleague. Right from the start, German and international sponsors have enjoyed working closely with CRS-Mönchengladbach and its associated partners. Nowadays, Dr. Torben Thomsen and Dr. Frank Schaumann are the managing directors of CRS-Mönchengladbach.
