The unit in Kiel was founded in 1992 as a private research unit in collaboration with the internal department of the university clinics Kiel. Since then, the unit has been offering all types of clinical Phase I/IIa studies to the pharmaceutical industry worldwide including special patient population trials. Since its move in 2000, CRS Kiel´s premises are located in the Kiel University Hospital area. Since January 2007, the Kiel unit is functioning as CRS-Kiel.

The unit has successfully passed an FDA inspection in 2002.
